I bought a new Taurus PT 1911 SS and at first was extremely satisfied with the pistol. I shot about 80 rounds in my first outing and was pleasantly surpised that everything worked fine, even the two magazines. The only problem I noted seemed to be ammo related as it took two hammer stricked to fire some old Hansen yugoslav ammo that was loaded with small pistol primers. Then on my second trip to the range the ambi safely backed out of the frame and jammed the gun after less than 8 rounds.. The spring loaded pin that tensions the left side of the safety fell out and of course the gun was rendered useless. I took the gun back to the dealer who agreed to fix it no charge as he said if I sent it back to Taurus it would take 2-3 months. Then the dealer recounted that the same thing had happened to another brand new PT 1911 in his shop while a customer was examining the gun. Based on these two experiences I would hold off on buying one of these until Taurus expalins how they will address this problem. My gun has been in the shop a week.

Rebelbred, Really Sorry for your recent disenchantment, but that is sometimes what happens when a new model comes out not enough feed-back from Buyers users to the Headquarters of TAURUS/USA. Had it been me I would have NOT even considered a TAURUS PT1911, they like so many other Large Pistol Co.'s desire some of their share of the 1911 market. Unfortunately, they did not keep up the John Browning success formula. KISS (Keep it Simple stupid. That is why when Kimber began making their very successfully built and designed by Chip McCormicK styled 1911 in what else but the old standby, .45 ACP round! There was the standard 5" barreled with conventional guide rod, full sized Model, in many offerings from Competition to Duty carry, ala McCormick sights with or without nite sights, and then in SS Bull Barreled compact, Ultra Compacts and then of course the accuracy was very well noted by many Shooters, Gun writers, Tactically minded LAPD and certain Spec-Ops persuasions both Military and civilian alike. Yes they can be a bit pricey now at this stage of Their ability to produce a very popular Pistol in many many models and configurations at their Factories in both Wy. and Yonkers, NY. When you think about it they were always a notch or two above other Firearms Companies with them being at the time primarily rifle makers! Then along came Pistols in the 1911 Military versions. In .45 ACP Which in my estimation are The best all around Knock-down drag-out round the always venerable stuff of Legends! Nuff said, and no I am not a saleman, but am a retired Trauma Nurse, former RANGER Doc' from The US Army 1960-66. Chip is no longer associated with them although he always carries KIMBER readily useful components, hammers, back straps, triggers, sights and of course those famous "Shooting Star SS mags in 7 rd. for short grip versions to 10 rd. for added shots for the standard sized models. I will never ever sell any of my Kimbers. In Freedom and Liberty, DocNBear

Based on these two experiences I would hold off on buying one of these until Taurus expalins how they will address this problem. My gun has been in the shop a week. With the exception of one Browning, one Ruger & one Hi-Standard, I've been a Colt fan most of my life. About 3 years ago I bought my 1st Taurus. I have a .22 revolver, and .40 & .45 autos. I've never had any problems with them whatsoever, including never even a single jam; which I can't say for my Colts. I 1st tried Taurus because of several other people's recommendations. So the problem you're having is not indicative of the brand. Stuff happens. However, as I always recommend in all cases, with all guns, if you buy a gun & you have a problem; send it back to the manufacturer. I don't care how good your gunsmith is, no one is better qualified to fix production or design problems, as is the manufacturer.
